To this day, the former Justice Minister Zurab Adeishvili does not feature on the Interpol Central Bureau’s list of individuals who are being pursued by the Georgian law enforcement agencies both at home and abroad.
According to a statement from the Prosecutor General’s Office, additional evidence with regards to Mr. Adeishvili has been sent to Interpol, and whether or not an international search warrant will be issued for the former Justice Minister, will be up to the organisation to decide.
The international search for Zurab Adeishvili should have begun upon the Ivanishvili government taking over, according to Lia Mukhashavria of the NGO Human Rights Priority.
The Tbilisi Municipal Court has already sentenced Mr. Adeishvili to pre-trial detention in absentia. He is being charged with abusing his powers, organising the humiliation and inhuman treatment of prisoners, falsifying evidence in a criminal case, and provoking criminal activities. According to the existing reports, the former Justice Minister currently resides in Hungary. The expert Mamuka Areshidze states that the fugitive Zurab Adeishvili works as a senior employee, and has sold his house in Tbilisi via Skype.
According to the official information, Zurab Adeishvili last crossed the Georgian border on 2 October 2012. Whether or not an international search warrant will be issued for him, remains to be seen.
