Zugdidi, in West Georgia, starts the construction of the new Central Park designed by CMD Ingenieros. During this first stage a new urban square will be built next to the historical monuments of Dadiani’s Palace and the old Botanical Garden. Conceived as an open air leisure area, it will have a surface of 55.000 m2 and will host an amphitheatre suitable for 10.000 people, green areas, restaurants, cafés and other facilities.

Given the enormous extension, there are volumes and different heights to improve the perception and set visual references. In the centre, a 1200 m2 water sheet creates a mirroring effect that reflects the surrounding landscape. Zugdidi’s main boulevard comes from South and visitors can reach the Square or continue until the palace gardens.

Great historical landscape

Zugdidi Central Park project proposes a new design for the biggest green area of this city, which comprises the historical Dadiani’s Palace and the old Botanical Garden, both real treasures of the history of Georgia. Besides the construction of the new Urban Square, our plan improves this cultural site renewing its gardens and creating new equipments such as playgrounds, an open-air sculpture museum, a youth-hostel and an ice-ring.

On the Botanical Garden we are focused to renew the path network and to recuperate and enrich the gardening design. Our proposal redefines the central lake area, rebuilds a pre-existing house adding terraces and Japanese-inspired porches. Educational and scientific routes have also been designed, making the Garden an attractive and modern facility.

CMD Ingenieros made the first studies for this work on summer 2011, finishing the construction document last March. This first stage will be completed in three months.
