The Chairman of the parliamentary Financial Budget Commission Davit Onoprishvili has made a controversial statement, claiming that the companies Borjomi and Nabeghlavi have been ‘wrapped in cotton wool’ for years, and that the water tax could have been increased for them much earlier. Both companies have complained against the tax increase, describing it as a discriminatory measure. However, Mr. Onoprishvili is certain that in the light of the companies’ financial strength, the tax increase will have no significant effect on them.
From 1 October, the water tax will increase from 10 to 30 Lari for Borjomi, and from 6 to 18 Lari for Nabeghlavi.
