Lawyers representing Vano Merabishvili have expressed their mistrust of the probe which is being conducted by the Ministry of Corrections. According to the attorney Otar Kakhidze, the norm of holding a probe has been absent from Georgian law since 2006, meaning that an investigation should have been conducted as soon as Mr Merabishvili issued his statement.
The case has dragged on, and the contradictory statements made by the ministry with regards to CCTV recordings have raised suspicions, Mr Kakhidze has stated.
