According to the head of the Mayor’s Office Municipal Service Department, it is as of yet unknown whether a tram line will be constructed in Tbilisi. The project would cost EUR 143 million, but cannot be financed from the city budget. The head of the city’s Department of Transport Akaki Jokhadze has told TV3 that cooperation will be necessary both with the central government and international organisations. According to him, one such organisation is the Asian Development Bank, which provides low-interest loans for such projects. The tram project has been designed by French colleagues, and if carried out, will run from Kavtaradze Street until the Ortachala district, Mr. Jokhadze has added.
