Tougher Legislation Regarding Hoax Calls

The criminal legislation regarding terrorism-related hoaxes is to be tightened. Against the background of a spate of recent hoax calls, the Parliament is rushing through legislative changes. People found guilty of such offences will face punishment ranging from fines and corrective labour, through to prison sentences of up to 5 years. Under aggravating circumstances, the prison terms can be increased to 7 years. The Parliament is also working on a legislation regarding the use of the 112 emergency number. Misuse of the hotline will be punishable by fines of up to GEL 1000, or up to 15 days in prison.
