What is the scale of the problem with the insurance companies’ debts towards hospitals? The Christian Democratic Movement member Magda Anikashvili has told TV3 that there is a real danger of disruptions to patient treatment processes due to the existing debts. According to her, the talk is about debts totalling GEL 30-40 million, which have left the hospital staff without pay, and patients without adequate service. According to Ms. Anikashvili, the government has thus far made no efforts to address the problem.
The head of the Doctors Union Joni Janashia has told TV3 that the insurance companies’ debts towards hospitals exceed GEL 40 million. According to him, the situation is critical in provincial hospitals, both in terms of the unpaid salaries and the quality of service. Mr. Janashia sees a closer cooperation between the hospitals and the State, with a reduced role for the insurance companies, as a possible solution for the existing problems.
