Will the property owners’ fellowship programmes be suspended? The Mayor of Tbilisi Gigi Ugulava has responded to the City Council’s decision to reduce the funding of the fellowships. According to the council member Tamaz Shoshiashvili of the United National Movement, the Council Chairman’s mistaken calculations have led to a lack of resources for the funding of self-governing bodies across the country. The Council Budget has shrunk by GEL 10 million, making it impossible to continue supporting the programmes, Mr. Shoshiashvili says.
The city’s Urban Management and Economy Chairman Nikoloz Kharachishvili has refuted the UNM’s claims, stating that there are enough funds in the Budget to continue operating the fellowship programmes. He adds that while the Budget will be lower than anticipated, it will nevertheless exceed last year’s amount by GEL 2 million.
