Lawyers representing the recently arrested senior members of the Mayor’s Office say that their clients are denying the charges against them. Moreover, the detainees claim to have had their rights violated during the arrest process. Prior to the arrests, which were made at night-time, the senior officials had also been detained during the day. The Mayor of Tbilisi and leaders of the United National Movement have described the arrests as an attempt by the Georgian Dream to seize control at the City Hall, and to settle political scores.
