The Finance Minister Nodar Khaduri has announced that following a review of the Tax Services data for the past 6 years, it has been established that the total amount of taxes collected in advance between 2006 and 2012 exceeded 1 billion GEL. In response, the former deputy assistant head of the Tax Services Lili Begiashvili has accused Mr. Khaduri of telling lies, saying that not a single complaint was registered against the tax authorities in this regard. According to her, the sophisticated mechanism to have excessive tax payments returned to the taxpayers was established under the previous government, between 2009 and 2011. The taxpayers’ tax accounts were united, and as a result, excessive tax payments made by companies in one area went towards covering their tax payments in other areas.
