Second stage of the Universal Health Program
The second stage of the Universal Health Program, which commences on 1 July, will not affect those who hold corporate insurance. The head of the Health Commitee Dimitri Khundadze has told TV3 that the first stage of the program was aimed at those without any type of insurance. The second stage will be aimed at the same section of the population, with enhanced service elements attached to it. He states that the cases of people who already hold insurance will also be dealt with, leaving the whole population insured. Precisely when the universal insurance program will be complete, will depend on the investigation conducted by the supervisory board, which aims to establish whether the insurance companies participating in the government program have been distributing funds in an appropriate manner. A few years ago, the Control Chamber announced findings, according to which funds from the state budget had been mismanaged by insurance companies for the purposes of maximising their profits.
