The Prime Minister’s spokesman on Georgian-Russian relations Zurab Abashidze has confirmed that the Russian billionaire Viktor Vekselberg has made a visit to Tbilisi, as reported by Commersant. The Russian businessman visited the country a few days ago, and held meetings with representatives from the investment fund, as well as members of the Ministry of the Economy and other government officials. However, Mr. Abashidze says that the main purpose of Mr. Vekselberg’s visit was to attend a friend’s birthday party, rather than to familiarise himself with the local business environment with a view to making future investments. According to Forbes data, as of March 2013, Mr. Vekselberg’s assets are valued at 15 billion USD.
