How does the National Food Agency assess the recent visit by a group of Russian experts, and when will Georgia begin to export its fruit and vegetables to Russia? The experts from the Russian Ministry of Agriculture have inspected enterprises involved in fruit, citrus and nut distribution in Tbilisi, as well as in the Kakheti, Samegrelo and Adjara regions. They also familiarised themselves with the local food inspection and certification system. The head of the NFA Phytosanitary Department Zurab Lipartia assesses the visit positively, and states that the Russian experts will deliver their verdict in a week’s time. He expects Georgian citrus fruit and apples to be exported to the Russian market in November, and other products to be added later on.
During the Russian experts’ visit, the National Food Agency received recommendations with regards to improving the local laboratories. A Georgian delegation is to visit Moscow in the near future, and familiarise itself with the setup of the laboratories in Russia.
