In spite of the protests from environmentalists, the company M-Group is proceeding with its plans to build a restaurant on the Turtle Lake territory. According to a company spokesman, the process of relaying the green spots on the territory has been completed, and the preparatory construction works have already started. He has further claimed that M-Group has obtained all necessary permit sand that the project has been adapted to the Turtle Lake territory landscape. The construction of the restaurant is to increase the number of visitors to the Turtle Lake, and the cost of the project, which is to be completed in 3-4 months’ time, is GEL 1.5 million.
Environmentalist Lasha Chkhartishvili has stated that the process of relaying the green spots on the Turtle Lake territory has been flawed, and that the landscape has already been sharply affected in a negative way. According to him, both the sale of the territory and its deprivation of the recreational zone status have been carried out illegally.
The M-Group has purchased the 2500 m2 land plot at an auction in 2011. The construction works are being carried out by its subsidiary company Koloriti. The construction process and the relaying of plants have been faced with protests from local residents and environmentalists.
