‘Acts of Violence carried out by Husbands against their Wives’ is the title of the study which the Institute of Social Research and the UN Women organisation presented today. The study was carried out in Tbilisi, Kakheti, Samegrelo and Upper Svaneti. The results showed that 77.8% of those who took part in the survey regard violence in the family as a ‘quite frequent’ or ‘very frequent’ occurrence, while 9.6% expressed fears that someone close to them could become a victim of domestic violence.
As for the issue of a woman’s response to violence, 69% of those surveyed stated that she ought to leave her husband in such a case, while 17% were of the opinion that the wife ought to show patience even when faced with violence.
According to the study, a woman could become a victim of domestic violence for several possible reasons, including neglect of children, burning the dinner, etc. A total of 1500 people aged between 18 and 60 took part in the survey.
