What has caused a reduction in the amount of goods transported by rail? According to the official statistics from the Georgian Railways, transportation of grain, oil, iron and manganese ore has decreased since January 2013. The Georgian Railways have declined to make a statement on this issue. The economist Irakli Lekvinadze, on the other hand, sees the answer to the question as to why the amount of transported goods has decreased in the official Sakstat data, according to which both imports and exports decreased sharply during the period between January and July 2013.
According to the Georgian Railways data, the transportation of grain experienced the sharpest fall, decreasing by 2.5 times during the period between January and July this year.
