Radisson Blu Hotel, Batumi to Prepare for Big Opening

Radisson Blu, the brand name for Radisson hotels operated by Belgian hotel company Rezidor Hotel Group, which has already opened Radisson Blu Iveria Hotel in the capital, is launching another property in Batumi this summer. The COMMERCIAL TIMES interviewed Mr. Fikret Yuksel, General Manager of Radisson Blu Hotel, Batumi, regarding the hotel’s development plans in Georgia’s rather competitive sea resort city.

- What’s going to be different about Radisson Blu Hotel in Batumi?

- Radisson Blu Hotel, Batumi will be the second large international brand opened in Batumi’s hotel sector. Our goal is to become the market leader. Thanks to the good job done by the PR management of our hotel in the capital Radisson Blu Iveria Hotel has an image of a successful luxury hotel in the country.

There are many international hotel brands to be opened in a year’s period and we’re aware of that. Our strategy to manage Radisson Blu property here is focused both on business and leisure segments. Our target is to attract guests from neighboring countries like Azerbaijan, Armenia, Latvia and especially Turkey. Radisson Blu Hotel, Batumi has all the facilities to host international events.

One of the main priorities for Radisson Blu Hotel, Batumi is to attract guest for a longer period than 2-3 months’ hotel season. We have excellent staff, we offer excellent services and deliver excellent standards.

Between June-August we’re expecting the hotel’s occupancy to be 100%. For the rest months our expectation is at least 50% occupancy.

- How pompous will the hotel opening be?

- The opening is scheduled for May 26, which is an independence day. Our expectation to host first guests is by June. The official opening details are kept confidential for now. What I can say is that this is going to be a really hilarious event bringing high government officials, special guests from abroad and mass-media to celebrate the grand opening.

Yes, I Can! Radisson brings its corporate attitude in Batumi.

- Just recently an agreement was signed in New York in the head office of the United States billionaire Donald Trump between Trump`s organization and Silk Road Group. Trump will invest USD 250 million in building two skyscrapers in Georgia. Trump Tower Tbilisi Hotel will be built in the center of Georgia’s capital and Trump Riviera will be constructed in Batumi. Will Trump Riviera be your direct competitor or because of Silk Road connection you might have some common development strategy?

- The owner company for us and the Trump project is the same. It will take at least three years to complete Trump Riviera, which is close to the Radisson Blu Iveria Hotel, Batumi. Donald Trump’s project is a big investment, which will be useful not only for Batumi but for the whole Georgia and will also influence Turkey. So, this is a project that opens really big opportunities.

- Up to 40 hotels have gone up in Batumi in the last four years and the process of the city’s hotel infrastructure development is further up growing. What concrete features will distinguish the hotel from other luxury hotels in Batumi?

- We’re different from our competitors. We have a vision, which we call Yes I Can attitude. This is Radisson’s attitude in all of it’s over 300 hotels. This is our vision, our concept, our heart.

Radisson Blu Iveria Hotel, Batumi will provide fresh host & easy service. It means that our guests are 100% satisfied by our services, otherwise they give us a chance to correct what they do not like and if we cannot manage that we say they do not need to pay for those services. That’s a huge promise, we trust our company and all the services in Radisson Blu  Hotel, Batumi will be provided same high quality as the brand has in over 300 other hotels worldwide.

- How will Radisson Blu Hotel, Batumi be managing price policy? How competitive will the hotel be in terms of cost-effectiveness?

- We have seasonal prices depending on high season, mid season and low season. We’ll be doing some marketing researches in respect to price standards and will offer best deals for our guests. Rate strategy is very important and we’ll be very careful about that. Radisson Blu Hotel, Batumi has not published official rates yet. The hotel will soon make this information available through its website.

- One of the major issues about Georgia’s service sector is qualified staff. Who are Radisson Blu Hotel, Batumi employees? Have they done some international trainings?

- When I compare the quality of services offered by Radisson and our competitors I see there’s a huge difference, both in Tbilisi and Batumi. People need trainings in service sector and this is our job. Radisson Blu Hotel, Batumi will train its staff according to its international standards.

We’ll be having 148 employees maximum because the hotel has 168 rooms that need to be taken good care of, also wonderful rooftop restaurant and bar, great veranda restaurant with terrace, SPA, conference facilities, huge ballroom, business center, indoor and outdoor pools..  Good news about Radisson Blu Hotel, Batumi is that both business and leisure travelers can feel comfortable with us.

- How comfortable do you feel working and staying in Georgia?

- I’ve been in Georgia for a month already and I’m impressed what I see here, it’s far better than I expected.

I’ve had experience in hotel management field in European countries, in New York also and of course in Turkey. What I feel is that there’s not much difference between Turkey and Georgia, genuine people, genuine hospitality, smiling faces.

I’m happy to stay with my wife in Georgia and work for Radisson Blu Hotel, Batumi.
