The Chairman of the Parliament Davit Usupashvili has not ruled out the possibility that the Parliament might not give its backing to the candidate suggested by Bidzina Ivanishvili as his successor to the post of Prime Minister. According to Mr. Usupashvili, “the candidate for the Prime Minister’s post ought to be chosen by the parliamentary majority, and presented to the President.” Bidzina Ivanishvili will remain the coalition leader for as long as he is Prime Minister, and accordingly, he will actively participate in the process of selecting his successor. However, no discussions shall take place on the issue prior to 27 October, and the identity of the leading candidate will not be known to anyone before then, Mr. Usupashvili has added.
