Publishers Take Legal Action against Ministry of Education
Publishing companies are taking legal action against the Ministry of Education. Tamta Ivanishvili, the attorney representing the publishers, has told TV3 that the evidence has already been submitted to the court, and will be reviewed in a few months’ time, in accordance with the existing procedures. According to her, the publishers are demanding the restoration of their intellectual property rights, and financial compensation for the damages suffered by the companies. Such legal cases frequently get resolved in the complainant’s favour, Ms. Ivanishvili has added.
The publishers are challenging the government’s decision to award the rights for printing school textbooks to 4 companies, leaving 18 other publishers sidelined. The Ministry of Education is yet to comment on the issue of legal action being raised by the publishers.
