Up to 4000 affected families, and half a billion Lari’s worth of internal debt – citizens affected by the collapse of the 1990’s cooperative building are demanding compensation from the Ministry of Finance. Today they held a protest outside the ministry. A spokesman for the NGO Tsnobari has told TV3 that the problem has existed for 25 years, but no specific decisions have been made by the State to this day.
In response, the head of the Finance Ministry’s legal department Sergi Birkadze has stated that a special task group has finished studying the case. According to him, the government has absorbed the funds owed to the affected homeowners as internal debt, and the issue will now be reviewed by the commission studying the State’s internal debts, which will be formed once the new government team is confirmed.
