Progress in the Universal Health Insurance Program
The second stage of the Universal Health Insurance Program has been running since 1 July. TV3 is starting to investigate the effects that the program has had in the nation’s hospitals. The first point of call has been the Tbilisi Referral Hospital. The head of the clinic has stated that the program represents a positive event for the Georgian population, but is also highly significant for the hospitals themselves. If earlier the hospitals were struggling to fulfil their duties due to a lack of financing, now this problem has been virtually resolved.
According to the official statistics, up to 2000 people are currently waiting to have surgeries as part of the Universal Health Insurance Program. Furthermore, 214 births have been given through the program.
