To what extent have insurance companies been fulfilling their obligations as defined by the terms of the State insurance programs? The Insurance Supervision Service (ISS) has been speaking about problems relating to the insurance companies. According to the head of the ISS Lasha Nikoladze, the majority of the companies which took part in the 2010-2012 State health insurance programs, have failed to fulfil their responsibilities in an adequate manner.
Mr. Nikoladze states that there have also been problems with many insurance companies’ activities in the State program which has been running since 2012. Mr. Nikoladze identifies a number of reasons for this, the main one being the accumulation of high amounts of debt by the insurance companies.
The NGO Transparency International-Georgia has also carried out an investigation into the insurance system, and concluded that some companies have frequently tried to evade their responsibilities, causing dissatisfaction of their policy holders in the process.
