President Awards Georgian Citizenship to Turkish Nationals

Mikheil Saakashvili has used his special presidential powers to award Georgian citizenship to 1088 Turkish nationals, bypassing the Ministry of Justice in the process. According to the State Service Development Agency, the President is awarding Georgian citizenship to foreign nationals according to his personal wishes, disregarding the legislative procedures of the country. On 10 September 2013, Mr. Saakashvili had already awarded Georgian citizenship to 935 Turkish nationals in the same fashion.
