The summoning of the Mayor of Tbilisi to the Prosecutor General’s Office has been assessed as political pressure by members of the United National Movement, and linked to the upcoming local elections.
The former head of the Security Headquarters, Giga Bokeria, has accused the Prosecutor’s Office of attempting to pressure the employees of the Mayor’s Office into giving statements against Mr Ugulava.
On the other hand, the summoning of the Mayor by the investigators was expected by members of the governing party. Thus, according to Zviad Dzidziguri, the questioning of Mr Ugulava is only normal, since the investigation into the Tbilisi Development Fund case is still ongoing.
