The Patarkatsishvili family is planning to appeal against the court decision which annulled the purchase made by their Rustavi Steel company of the Rustavi Metallurgical Plant. The court decision places the plant back into the ownership of Joseph Key’s company Georgian Steel. The plant was given to Rustavi Steel in 2011, with the Patarkatsishvili family agreeing to invest 78 million GEL into its rehabilitation process, 18 million GEL of which have already been paid. The rehabilitation process manager has already told TV3 that the plant is being taken away from the Patarkatsishvili family unlawfully.

Staff at the Rustavi Metallurgical Plant say that as of now, they consider the Patarkatsishvili family to still be the plant’s owners, and they do not know when the late businessman’s family will be making an official announcement on the issue. On her part, the current Director of Georgian Steel Natia Jakeli claims that it was due to an agreement struck between the Patarkatsishvili family and the previous government that the plant was unlawfully taken away from Joseph Key’s company in first place, and is now being returned to its rightful owners.
