An initiative to increase the Georgian President’s salary has reached the Parliament. According to the proposed changes to the legislation, the President’s monthly wage is to be set at GEL 9000. The stated reason for the changes is that the President is currently not being paid appropriately for his work.
The author of the legislation has explained that the adoption of the changes will not require allocating additional resources from the State Budget, since the President’s wage will be paid from the Presidential Administration’s allotments for this year, as well as in 2014.
The author and initiator of the proposed legislation is the leader of the parliamentary majority, Davit Saganelidze. The President’s monthly salary presently stands at GEL 4720.
