  • Sport Relief’s John Bishop leaves Gravesend for London

    Cheering crowds waved comedian John Bishop on his way to London this morning (Friday) as he left Gravesend on the final leg of his “Week of Hell” in aid of Sport Relief.

    He spoke to Radio 1 presenter Chris Moyles moments before setting off as crowds gathered at Community Square, outside the Civic Centre, Gravesend, at about 9am.

    Banners reading ‘Go John, Go John, Go John’ were held by supporters as residents, council staff and people on their way to work in the town centre showed their support.

  • Hyundai marks record Middle East sales

    Hyundai Motor Company has announced best sales figures for the Middle East region in 2011. The company showed a 9 percent increase in total sales in comparison to 2010, selling a record number of 283,953 vehicles.

    In Saudi Arabia, the company’s single biggest market, Hyundai reported an 18 percent growth in sales thanks to the efforts of its three retail partners — Almajdouie Motors in Dammam, Mohamed Yousuf Naghi Motors in Jeddah and the Wallan Establishment in Riyadh.

    Auto giant shows 40% rise from last year’s February figures, with sales increasing at Ford and GM despite rising gas prices

    US car manufacturers enjoyed bumper sales in February as drivers bought fuel-efficient vehicles amid rising gas prices.

    Chrysler led the pack, announcing its best sales figures in four years – a 40% rise year on year and the firm’s 23rd consecutive month of gains. The company, controlled by Italy’s Fiat, emerged from bankruptcy in June 2009.

    Leaders of 12 majors sign commitment to make oilsands greener

    An unprecedented alliance of the oilsands’ biggest producers pledged Thursday to break down barriers keeping them from sharing environmental research and, ultimately, innovations in oilsands cleanup.

    The leaders of 12 companies signed a charter that brought the Canadian Oil Sands Innovation Alliance to life with a collective commitment to focus on tailings ponds, greenhouse gas emissions, water and land issues.

    “You have a very, very public, transparent commitment here,” said alliance chairman Dan Wicklum.
