    We will do everything to prevent a scenario where Tbilisi will be left without the energetic Mayor who has been running the city for so long, the Deputy Mayor, Sevdia Ugrekhelidze, has told the Prime Time Press Club. According to her, the attempts to remove Mr Ugulava from the office through the courts are unlawful and unconstitutional.
    Ms Ugrekhelidze added that the court’s decision came about as a result of intimidation.

    A decision on whether the criminal cases against Davit Kezerashvili and Gigi Ugulava will be split and handled separately from each other could be made today. The former Defence Minister’s team is to respond to the prosecution’s motion to have the case dealt with separately today.
    Mr Kezerashvili and Mr Ugulava are facing charges of appropriation of property and money laundering. The charges against the Mayor relate to three separate episodes – the sale of the Rike territory, the sale of the TV station Imedi, and the employment of UNM activists in Tbilservicegroup.

    The United National Movement is going back to parliamentary work and is planning to put forward a 5 point list of demands at today’s session of the Bureau. The list was compiled at the party’s political council meeting recently.
    The opposition is demanding the establishment of two investigative committees – one to investigate Gigi Ugulava’s claims of pressure being applied on the Tbilisi Municipal Court, and the other to deal with Vano Merabishvili’s claims of intimidation.

    The presentation of the 2014 spring and summer collections of the new Gola Damian brand has taken place at the European House, with the Daload Group’s support. The collection has been designed by Giorgi Zumbulidze, a.k.a. Gola.
    30 different outfits were presented at the show. The Daload Group is planning to organise full rand management and promotion, both domestically and abroad. Giorgi Zumbulidze first came to the public attention in 2010, during the Tbilisi fashion weekly.

  • Arrest of UNM Members

    Members of the parliamentary opposition, Giorgi Ghviniashvili and Kakha Butskhrikidze, have been summoned for questioning at the Prosecutor’s Office today.
    The United National Movement sees this move as political repression, but stresses that due to the significant public interest, Mr Ghviniashvili and Mr Butskhrikidze will answer all the questions put to them by the investigators.
    Members of the Georgian Dream Coalition have ruled out political motives behind the questioning, and have stated that the investigation process will proceed in a fair and just manner.
