  • Wissol leaves Torpedo

    The Wissol Group has left the Georgian Top League football team Torpedo Kutaisi. It had been financing the Imeretian club since August 2010. The club’s 12 000 capacity stadium was renovated in the same year, and now satisfies UEFA standards.
    Wissol invested up to GEL 5 million in Torpedo in total. However, its tenure has been accompanied by conflicts with the club’s main supporters group.
    Recently, Wissol decided to conduct personnel changes in the squad, focussing on young talented players.


  • Vano Merabishvili’s Case

    Lawyers representing Vano Merabishvili have expressed their mistrust of the probe which is being conducted by the Ministry of Corrections. According to the attorney Otar Kakhidze, the norm of holding a probe has been absent from Georgian law since 2006, meaning that an investigation should have been conducted as soon as Mr Merabishvili issued his statement.
    The case has dragged on, and the contradictory statements made by the ministry with regards to CCTV recordings have raised suspicions, Mr Kakhidze has stated.


  • Dimitri Shashkin Questioned

    Dimitri Shashkin is due to be questioned today with regards to the 26 May 2011 events. According to the former head of the corrections, education and defence ministries, he was handed the court warrant yesterday.
    Mr Shashkin plans to appear at the Prosecutor General’s Office for questioning at 13:00 today.


  • The Ugulava Verdict will be appealed

    The Tbilisi Municipal Court’s decision to remove the Mayor of Tbilisi, Gigi Ugulava, from the office and bail him for 50 000 Lari will be appealed at the Court of Appeals, his attorneys have stated today.
    The defence team has described the judge Dali Metreveli’s decision as unjustified. The Municipal Court has revoked Mr Ugulava’s right to hold office.
    The judge did not agree to the prosecution’s demands to have Mr Ugulava placed under arrest, and set the bail at GEL 50 000.

    The ensemble has presented itself in a completely new image and style. Among the guests of the show were the current and former Prime Ministers, the Chairman of the Parliament and other members of the government.
