The tendering process for the construction of a new highway linking Tbilisi and Rustavi has been completed. The Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure has told TV3 that the tendering commission is currently studying the technical details, before announcing the identity of the winning bidder, who will begin the construction works in September.
Fourteen companies took part in the tender. The main stated criteria were the quality of the work, fulfilment of all obligations, and maintaining the standards set out by the government. Works on the new highway had begun under the previous government. However, a criminal investigation was initiated against the winning company, and the construction process had been temporarily suspended.
