The Tbilisi City Council’s Environment Protection Commission is to examine the issue of the planned construction of a new restaurant on the Turtle Lake territory. The head of the commission Kakha Piruashvili has told TV3 that the issue is hugely important to him, and that he plans to familiarise himself with the situation on the spot. As we reported earlier, there have been protests against the construction of the restaurant and the cutting of plants. According to the protesters, the project is being carried out by the M-Group, who have already obtained the appropriate permits.
According to a statement by the Tbilisi Mayor’s Office, the cutting of trees at the location in question is neither happening, nor planned to happen, and only a replanting of bushes is taking place. It is also stated that the 2500 m2 plot of land on the Turtle Lake territory was purchased for 650 000 GEL by M-Group Info Ltd. at an auction in 2011, and was then passed on to the company Koloriti Ltd. The investor is said to have a duty to construct a children’s entertainment centre and a family recreational zone in the area.
