Will McDonald’s be conducting any changes to its service following the emergence of new players on the local fast food market? The American fast food chain Wendy’s will begin operating its Tbilisi branch on 12 September, while the first local Subway branch will open on 20 October. Businessman Temur Chkonia, who is a local partner for both the McDonald’s and the Coca-Cola brands, has told TV3 that the emergence of new brands on the local market is a positive development from his point of view, as both Wendy’s and Subway use Coca-Cola products worldwide. Mr. Chkonia adds that McDonald’s is unlikely to make any changes to its own service, as there is no need for this.
Spokespeople at both Wendy’s and Subway have stated that a full list of the soft drinks which they will be using has not been finalised yet. According to a spokesman at the Wissol Group, which has brought the Wendy’s brand into Georgia, the company does not intend to focus on Coca-Cola products alone. A Subway spokesman adds that the company sells soft drinks under its own brand, and therefore does not require using Coca-Cola products
