The National Audit Service is accusing the United National Movement of embezzling and misappropriating sums of over 5 million GEL. A spokesman for the Audit Service has stated during an extraordinary briefing that documents shown to them by the Prosecutor’s Office reveal that the UNM had illegally used funds allocated to the State Employment Program for their own election campaigning purposes. The documents show that the funds were used by the Social Services Agency in 2012 to sign agreements with 21 837 individuals who went on to do campaigning work for the party. One of the criminal charges currently facing the former Prime Minister Vano Merabishvili and the former Health Minister Zurab Chiaberashvili relates to the misappropriation of the State Employment Program funds for their own political campaigning purposes.
