In response to the question whether the increase in excise tax on tobacco products will lead to an increase in contraband, the Finance Minister has stated that the tax increase will neither reduce the Budget income, nor lead to a boost in contraband. He added that a special commission is working on reducing people’s access to cigarettes. As we reported earlier, the excise tax on tobacco products will increase by 15 Tetri from 1 September.
