The President of Lithuania, Dalia Grybauskaite, will not be attending the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. The stated reasons for her decision are the pressure applied by Russia upon the Eastern Partnership member countries, as well as the human rights issues in Russia.
According to Ms Grybauskaite, the political and economic pressure applied by Russia upon Georgia and Moldova, as well as the economic pressure on Lithuania, do not allow her to attend the Olympics.
According to reports, the President of Moldova, Nicolae Timofti, is to join the boycott, and has already confirmed that he will not be attending the Olympics. Earlier, the French, German, Polish, Belgian and US heads of state have already declined to attend the event.
