The Prosecutor General’s Office in Tbilisi continues to study the case submitted by the former owners of Liberty Bank, which is currently in the hands of Lado Gurgenidze. The case was submitted several months ago by the former owners Irina Jincharadze, Elena Kovalenko, Giorgi Goguadze, and the company Starkroad Resources. The former owners are claiming to have been forced to give up the controlling stake, placing the bank under illegal ownership. The Prosecutor’s Office has stated that the investigation is ongoing, and that no details shall be revealed prior to its completion. Equally, former shareholder Giorgi Goguadze has declined to make a comment at this stage, merely stating that the case has been studied by the Prosecutor’s Office from the first day of the new government taking the office, with little progress having been made so far. Nevertheless, the former owner of the People’s Bank maintains his faith in the Prosecutor General and the Justice Minister. The People’s Bank, which is now operating under the name of Liberty Bank, changed ownership in 2009.
