The Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development is accusing the company New Energy of not paying millions of GEL in debts and failing to fulfil their contractual obligations. The Finance Ministry’s Investigation Department is handling the case. A spokesman for the Investigation Department says that a full statement will not be made while the investigation is still ongoing. However, he confirms that the investigation has uncovered several corruption schemes which New Energy was involved in, relating to international tenders. New Energy is owned by Vano Merabishvili’s former classmate Lukhum Kapanadze, and was one of the major contract recepients under the previous government.
