What does the increase in the import and export numbers tell us about? According to the official Sakstat data, the volume of Georgian exports reached a 19 month high in July. As for the volume of imports, it has increased by 3.5% in July compared to the same period last year. The expert on economic matters Soso Archvadze has told TV3 that it would be premature to speak about the revitalisation of the economy based upon these figures. However, if these trends were to continue for another 4 or 5 months, then it would be safe to say that the country’s economy is growing again.
According to the Sakstat data, the volume of exports in July had only been topped once during the past 18 years, in December 2011, when it reached a record high.
