TV3 is starting to ask political parties to clarify their positions on topical issues. The issue of mortgages is currently being discussed by the Parliament, having initially been raised by a member of the Georgian Dream coalition. However, following the protests from the banks and criticism from the Prime Minister, the issue failed to reach the second hearing session at the Parliament. The leader of the Christian Democratic Party Giorgi Targamadze has told TV3 that the problem with mortgages cannot be solved through rude interference into the banking affairs. According to him, the State should find funds within the Budget to help the affected individuals itself.
The leader of the Labour Party Shalva Natelashvili has promised to find a solution to the problem if elected President in October. According to Soso Shatberashvili, one of the leaders of the Left Alliance, it is vital to help the people affected by difficulties to repay mortgages, and he sees legislative changes as the way to solve the problem.
TV3 will be bringing you the views of the key political players on economic and other issues during the election campaign.
