More than 55 000 tonnes of grapes have been sold in Kakheti. According to the Minister of Agriculture Shalva Pipia, the grape harvest is proceeding successfully. Up to 70 private companies are involved in the process of purchasing grapes across the region.
According to the minister, the financial mechanism has been altered to make it easier for winemakers to purchase the grapes. The subsidies mechanism has also been changed. Instead of directly subsidising the farmers, the focus is now on indirectly subsidising the winemakers. Furthermore, State intervention in the process has been softer and lower in scale.
