TV3 has become familiar with the mechanism that the Georgian government intends to use to reduce fuel prices on the local market. As confirmed by the Prime Minister, a Georgian delegation visited Azerbaijan, and is due to initiate the process of lowering the fuel prices in the near future. For the first time, the Energy Minister Kakha Kaladze has specified that the talk is of importing cheap fuel from Turkmenistan via Azerbaijan. According to him, the local market is currently being dominated by more expensive petrol from Romania, while Turkmen imports will push the prices downwards. Furthermore, a transit liberalisation document has been signed between Georgia and Azerbaijan, which will increase the goods turnover between the two countries to record amounts, further decreasing the price of Azerbaijani fuel in Georgia.
