The Mayor of Tbilisi Gigi Ugulava has stated that he has no knowledge of the details regarding Davit Kezerashvili’s arrest, or about the French court’s possible verdict on the former Defence Minister’s extradition.
According to Mr. Ugulava, up to 30 individuals have already been offered political asylum by countries of the European Union, which points towards the Georgian government’s witch hunt against its political opponents. He added that Mr. Kezerashvili’s name figures in the cases relating to the sales of Imedi and the Rike territory due to him being a friend of the Mayor.
The former Defence Minister was arrested in France on 14 October. The Georgian Prosecutor General’s Office is already preparing the documents necessary to apply for his extradition.
