Are the exports of Georgian wine products to the Russian market experiencing noticeable stagnation? The National Wine Agency has responded to Russia’s Chief Health Inspector Gennadiy Onishchenko’s recent statement to this effect. According to the head of the agency Levan Davitashvili, the rate at which Georgian wine is exported to the Russian market is lower than it could be. However, it is far too early to talk about stagnation at this stage. Mr. Davitashvili states that in order to aid the wine industry, it is necessary to simplify the technical procedures for bringing the products on the Russian market. The issue of simplifying the technical procedures is acceptable for the Russian side, he adds.
According to Mr. Davitashvili, over 3 500 000 bottles of Georgian wine have been exported to Russia during the past month and a half, which is a positive figure.
