Gambling Sector Attracts Foreign Investment
The Parliament is waiting for advice from foreign investors and lawyers to come to a final decision with regards to the gambling industry. According to Zurab Tkemaladze, the head of the special parliamentary commission dealing with the gambling industry, a group of Spanish investors that are currently visiting Georgia have become interested in the gambling sector, and have been sharing their own experiences with the appropriate departments. Mr. Tkemaladze has been unable to specify when the Parliament might reach a final decision on the issue of gambling.
Iva Chighvinadze, a former shareholder of Casino Adjara whose initiative it was to invite the Spanish investors to Georgia, has confirmed that the group is currently in talks with the parliamentary commission dealing with the gambling sector. According to him, the investors are currently in the process of acquiring and renovating properties in Tbilisi and Batumi. The Georgian gambling sector has also attracted interest from investors in Russia, Mr. Chighvinadze has added.
