How much money was spent on the rehabilitation of Tbilisi’s historic districts? Recent years have seen the renovation of Aghmashenebeli Avenue, the Kalaubani district, Marjanishvili Square, and the Rike Park. The Mayor’s Office has declined to comment on the subject of rehabilitation works. However, according to the Young Lawyers Association spokesman Sulkhan Saladze, the Mayor’s Office has never produced an account detailing the activities of its various funds. Information regarding the money spent on renovating the sites, the works that have been carried out, and the manner in which companies were selected to carry out the works, has not been accessible. Mr. Saladze states that the Mayor’s Office has full access to the aforementioned information, since the funds that carried out the projects are represented by city officials and architects. In spite of this, no information aside from the official project titles has been released.
