It has become known that the National Bank will be publishing its verdict regarding the existing situation on the fast payment service market in the near future. The announcement has been preceded by protests outside the National Bank’s building, the participants of which complained about the Bank of Georgian and TBC Bank monopolising the market, and demanding that the National Bank regulate the issue. The protesters regard the 0% commission charges at the BOG’s Express Pay and TBC Bank’s TBC Pay machines as unacceptable. They claim to be losing income, which in turn will cost up to 10000 people their jobs.
The National Bank has released a brief statement in response to the protests. On their part, the protesters took their grievances to the State Chancellery, via the BOG headquarters and the Tbilisi City Council.
