A Georgian delegation will pass the information regarding the materials discovered in caches in Samegrelo on to the European Council’s summer session. According to the delegation’s member Tina Khidasheli, the President and the Speaker of the European Council have been contacted and made aware of the materials relating to human rights abuses. Khidasheli has made an official request to obtain materials from the Ministry of Internal Affairs that document cases of torture and rape. The President of Georgia has stated that he personally allowed the creation of the weapons caches, which were to serve as an additional defensive resource in the event of Russian aggression. However, he insists that tapes depicting torture of citizens were never kept in these caches, and were planted there.
