Environment Protection Standards to be Improved

What measures are being planned with regards to protecting the environment, and are such measures in conflict with the country’s economic prosperity? The Environment Protection Minister Khatuna Gogaladze has told TV3 that work is being carried out in many directions in order to improve environment protection standards. According to her, a document on forestry policy is being developed, and vital measures are being taken in this regard. Furthermore, a supervisory department is in the process of being established, which will be tasked with inspecting and controlling manufacturers. The department will also deal with poaching and unlawful use of nature. According to Ms. Gogaladze, an increase in the environment protection standards will aid the development of the country’s economy and infrastructure. She adds that a balance between infrastructure projects and greenery has to be maintained, in order to avoid encroachment on recreation zones for investment purposes.
