Director of the Crystal Ltd. Levan Dautashvili was sent to custody under the ruling of the Tbilisi City Court on July 6. Dautashvili is charged for the accident, which occurred in Tbilisi’s Lilo district on July 3 when chlorine leakage from a damaged container caused intoxication of over 70 people.

The lawyer of the defendant tried to convince the judge that the container did not belong to the Ltd. Crystal, saying that Dautashvili could be bailed out for GEL 5 000. The judge satisfied the appeal of the prosecutor and sent the Director of the Crystal Ltd to custody. The trial on the case will be held on August 27. Crystal Ltd. is a contractor of the United Water Supply Company of Georgia which ensures water provision in the country.

Dautashvili stated at the Tbilisi City Court that his sending to custody would raise problems in terms of water supply in the capital because “Crystal Ltd. is the only chlorine supplier to water companies.”

Georgian Water and Power (GWP) released a statement in reference to the accident: “GWP declares with full responsibility that water supply Tbilisi faces no threat. The company has big storage of chlorine. Crystal Ltd. was not the only chlorine supplier to GWP.”
