Aside from war and tensions, the population of Knolevi – a village near the zone of occupation – is fearing the onset of winter. Local residents will be awaiting the arrival of the cold season without firewood which they normally use to heat their homes. Electricity supplies are scarce, individual meters have not been installed yet, and the locals are frequently forced to use candlelight during their daily lives. The residents would welcome natural gas supplies, but do not believe that they will be supplied with them. A government commission has already visited several villages close to the zone of occupation, including Knolevi. Paata Zakareishvili and Davit Narmania promised the locals to begin the process of constructing gas supply pipes in November, and to supply them with firewood for the winter. The ministers have further stated that drilling for water wells has begun in the villages.Installation of individual meters will also be financed by the government. While the officials are taking their time to get the firewood supplies delivered, the locals are forced to use trees from their own gardens for heating purposes.
